As stated on last month’s blog I had the privilege to work in support of drying cherries up in Washington State.
The aircraft we used for drying the cherries was the Sikorsky S55C. A little-known fact is that many of these airframes came from Orlando, Florida.
Fred Clark modified many of these ships under the company named Orlando Helicopter Airways, now Vertical Aviation Technologies based in Sanford, Florida. Cherry drying season 2026 was a fast one. We were able to fly just a few times in support of the cherry farmers. The fruit was picked at remarkable speed this season and in addition it was very dry.
